The real ER- just like the one on TV
The real ER is just as sad as the one on TV, though I can't quite tell you why. Perhaps it's because we were there at 3am in the morning and there wasn't as much "action" as I thought there might be. It was a Monday night: there was a girl in a horse riding outfit (broken arm), there was a 2 year old girl (brother dropped her on her face), there was a man dragged in Saving Private Ryan style from somewhere outside, and there was a tall girl who looked like she must have played basketball. The nurse was the same one we had last year when we were here in the ER for similar reasons- my earth wife had 6.9 units of Hemoglobin- when you hit the 7's- that's when they transfuse. I've been reading Lance Armstrong's "It's Not About the Bike" and he was talking proudly about how he walked from one side of the hospital to the other when his Hemoglobin was 7.something. My wife was raising a 3.5 year old boy with less Hemoglobin than that- Rock on Earth Wife!

Unexplained Sad Thing #284
One of the unexplained sadnesses of the universe must be seeing a wrecked Toyota Prius. Obviously I can't put my finger on what's so sad about it or else it would be an explained sad thing, for which no category exists.
I was on my way home this afternoon from the office and saw the flashing lights of patrol cars. Traffic had slowed and I saw it in a flash- a heavily dented Toyota Prius. Immediately, I felt the unexplained sadness, like when the sun is setting and it's the end of the day. I don't know if it's because the Prius seems to be trying so hard to be a good earth citizen, or that because of its hybrid engine doesn't ever seem to fit in with the other cars- either way, a wrecked Prius is not something I ever look forward to seeing.

Unexplained Sad Thing #273
Sanjaya Malakar
American Idol's Sanjaya Malakar is my latest unexplained sad thing. I don't really know what to say about him, he's so happy and smiles so much, it should make me happy, but some reason he makes me sad. Even the Hula dancing bit makes me sad.
If anyone has some ideas as to what is unexplainably sad about Sanjaya Malakar, please let me know and I'll stop voting for him.
